Founder’s Desk: Climate Change
On climate change:
One of the beaches that I experienced in West Coast India was closed due to sea water rise. My curiosity heightened to understand causes in general globally.
Data indicates as summarized below:
Ice Melt, Thermal Expansion, Land Water Storage, Gravitational Rotational & Deformational Changes, Tectonic Plate movements, Short-Term Effects, Sterodynamic Variability, Glaciers, Subsidence & Human Activities**
Many causes are well described except Human activities**. I am sure Geoscience, Oceanography experts and research bodies might have better insights about these human activities but I wondered what about the cause of overall weight of “ocean watercrafts”.
Attempted to estimate the total weight of all ocean watercrafts. Arrived at a lower bound estimation of 1275 Million (Ton)nes and let’s round it off to 1200. Check comment for the breakup data. Who knows what could be the maximum range considering what we carry in these watercrafts. What we remove from the sea may offset some volume of water that gets displaced.
Can “Law Of Buoyancy-Archimedes Principle” apply to rise sea water level somewhere to occupy the land? In Archimedes experience, water spilled out on the floor but I suppose sea water cannot spill into the space. If not, where does it go?
Interested to get your opinion. Note that this is not a climate activist’s post but the intent of this poll is to grab some attention on this perspective. Mother Nature has been constantly changing for millions of years as we understand. Focusing on human-caused issues can help significantly. Your view will help to do something about the disaster we are trying to pass it on to next generation. Perhaps, “United” policies can help to delay or curb it.
